Sweet Potato Fries

On my quest for a better body, I am trying to find alternatives for some of my weaknesses.  One of my biggest "guilty-don't-eat-me" food is french fries.  From the research (and Lord only knows why I would need to research this little fact) french fries is probably one of the worst foods someone could eat.  REALLY!?!?!?!  Just kidding, I knew that, but on a Saturday nite after watching an entire football game so that I can see my one little clarinet player march (for 7 minutes) with the marching band, then picking her up at midnite after the game -- fresh fruit unfortunately is not the first stop. Usually it's a burger and fries --- baaad.
A yummy alternative to regular french fries would be the sweet potato fry.  These are very simple to make.  Slice a sweet potato, toss with a little olive oil and the seasonings of your choice (paprika, sea salt, garlic, pepper) then bake on a cookie sheet lined with foil paper at 450 for 20 minutes.  There are lots of varieties of this recipe on line to try.  Give them a try!

  2. Last year I went to my doctor for a physical. In short, he told me that I was unhealthy and I needed to lose weight. At the time, I was 215 pounds.......oh and I am 6'2. I didn't think I was overweight, but he assured me that the body mass index said that I should weigh around 175. He also said that I was a borderline diabetic and that he should probably start me on insulin. I told him that it would be a cold day in hell before I injected ANYTHING in me, I could never be a drug addict, I despise needles.

In any case, I left his office on a mission. I changed my diet. I stopped eating so much red meat and fried foods. I stopped grilling steaks and burgers and legs of lamb; and started grilling chicken and fish and vegetables. I started walking in the evenings. I started walking 3 miles a day, then six. Today I walked 10 miles after work. There have been days this summer that I've walked 20 miles in a day. I now weigh 175 pounds. I feel healthier, but I've never actually been back to the doctor. I've scheduled a blood test for this coming Monday and the following Monday I'll have my yearly physical. I expect better news this year. I guess I'll finally find out Monday after next.

By the way, I love sweet potato french fries.

Never tried fried sweet potatoes but they do sound like a good alternative to those killer fires.
